That is a bi-partisan objection


Virginia has always separated collegiate athletics from state schools. Giving athletics a break, seems to be culturally not a Virginia thing. Especially now, some legislatures have question state universities (the 4 big schools record growth) while others (ie. radford Mary washington Longwood etc) took a 10 percent hit in enrollment. It costs alot to operate top tier universities and the state has reduced the contribution of state school contributions to keep in state tuition down, so universities are getting the money with increased in out of state tuition. That's their bread and butter. If you allow athletics to get a in state rate, where is the delta coming in. This is really backdoor state funding of collegiate athletics. The commonwealth both parties do not support that.
