tamp down a lot of the misconceptions about the roles of coaches and players for what happens with the clock running. Consider here quotes that I feel are truths about coaching and players:

"The Hokies just seem to make big-time plays in the Big Apple". (our players reached down and brought something out better than the UNC players did.)

"Man, we had an edge to us all night defensively,"

“I thought we made a couple of shots, but our defense carried us" .(Defense is the meat and potatoes of wins for equal or lesser talent. Offense is the french pastry)

"Regression to the mean is normal", (Ultimately it is the talent that establishes the consistency. The Jimmys and Joes are the mean)

"He hasn’t always been perfect, but against North Carolina, he was a quiet, calm maestro." (SM)

"All Carolina needed was a spark. Instead, Murphy, who finished with seven points and seven assists, stepped up. And not in an extremely noticeable way either. Simply catching the inbounds pass, helping break the press and controlling the overall flow of the game.

Young said his squad didn’t alter anything at all from the previous two matchups with the Tar Heels. The Hokies just played better.

So much evidence and so clear. Our "normal mean" is nowhere near close to Duke or UNC but IMHO we should celebrate like heck that the coach and players created a team that could go on the court, reach down and do the things that needed to be done.
