All that bubble talk is just a form of marketing


to build up hype and support for the tournament. Besides the auto qualifiers, they can put whoever they want in the tournament, and there’s not a darn thing anybody can do about it. Joe Lunardi looks like Larry Bud Mellman’s love child and doesn’t know any more than any poor sap off the streets. It makes for great TV and discussion though.
