The Batman - the good and the not so good (spoilery)
The good:
- Pattinson is a very good Batman. Maybe the best?
- Matt Reeves is a very good director. You know what you're getting into with a Reeves film - deliberate pace, even story flow, lots of character interaction, very dramatic.
- Batman does detective stuff. Watching Batman in a Justice League setting, he seems like a fish out of water with all the super powered characters. Here he is in his element. This is how the character should be used. This, and punching chumps.
- Batman punches lots of chumps.
- The sound design, especially ambient sound, is pretty awesome.
- The take on the Riddler - he's more of a Zodiac serial killer type.
- Colin Farrell's Penguin. Could you tell that was him under all that makeup?
- Pattinson and Kravitz have good chemistry.
The bad:
- Some three hour films seem to go by in an instant. This is not one of them. After hitting the two hour mark, my back counted out every minute thereafter.
- So the third act. It doesn't quite live up to the first two. It didn't bother me much but it might bother others.
- Sometimes we get Emo Batman. Oh well.
- Has the Batsuit ever been this bullet-proof? I'm surprised it didn't deflect a tank round. And no one thought to shoot him in the chin!
