Mike Young does not use his PGs in a traditional sense...

If you compare his stats and usage to his last 2 years at Wofford (without Mike Young) then yes it looks like a step down in usage. But if you compare him to his time under Mike Young then hes actually pretty much the same.

FGA per game

Year 1: 4.7
Year 2: 5.8
This season: 6.8

3PA per game

Year 1: 3.1
Year 2: 3.1
This season: 4.3

Points per game

Year 1: 6.3
Year 2: 8.0
This season: 7.8

Usage rate

Year 1: 13.3%
Year 2: 14.4%
Year 3: 21.0% (without MY)
Year 4: 25.9% (without MY)
This season: 17.9%

People just want someone to blame without understanding the nuances of the philosophy. Murphy runs the offense very well. He just went through a shooting slump for about 5 games, and people are judging him based on expectations from a usage standpoint that was never going to be his role at VT.

Outside of the otherworldly 3pt% he shot his sophomore season at Wofford, he has been exactly as productive as he was when he took Wofford to a 30-5 record and 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament
