I believe in this case the VT baseball coach worked out the deal,

probably knows the ECU coach well, and ECU plays at Radford tomorrow. It gives VT a midweek game vs a good team and allows ECU to play two games in the area. It should be a good RPI builder too.

And there’s probably little monetary risk unlike football.
