Challenging part of the season is about to begin...

These next 4 games should help us evaluate the potential for this year's team. First is today's home game vs ECU, and then this weekend's 3-game road series at GT.

ECU was highly ranked in pre-season polls (#11 to 14 in several), but dropped consecutive opening series to Bryant and UNC. Since then ECU seems to have turned things around, winning consecutive games vs Duke, Indiana St., Michigan & Maryland, with an overall record of 6-5, leading to a #78 RPI (and #60 Strength of Schedule (SOS)) ranking by Warren Nolan - https://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2022/rpi-live.

GT is currently ranked anywhere from #9 to 13 in the major polls (Collegiate Baseball; USA Today Coaches; D1 Baseball). It's won consecutive weekend series vs Wright State, Gardner-Webb and top-20 Georgia, and carries a #34 RPI (and #95 SOS) ranking from Warren Nolan.

The early season wins hopefully instilled some confidence and momentum in the Hokies, and will lead to good outcomes through the weekend. But it's useful to note that Nolan's RPI and SOS for Tech are #s219 and 290, respectively, out of 301 teams overall - meaning that only 11 teams are viewed as having an easier schedule than Tech so far.
