Difference is we had total air superiority at that point
not sure the Russians have total, but given they are moving a convoy of that size it is likely they have a pretty solid control of the skies in that area or they wouldn't be moving it.
I think sometimes there is a feeling that the Russian army is some sort of bumbling bunch of morons. They have some issues in both leadership and likely professionalism due to the fact that most of their soldiers are peasant conscripts. Doesn't mean they don't do some very basic things right and likely very well. Things like understanding the need to protect a massive convoy from air strikes is probably something they are pretty good at. One thing for our media and people on message boards to believe that, just hope those making decisions, both political and military, never get to the point where they underestimate an enemy, no matter what they say in public.
