Runs by inning
I crunched some numbers for runs by inning. Hokies have been particularly good in the first half of games, outscoring opponents 30-5 in the first four innings, including 19-1(!) in innings 3 and 4. It seems like both the hitters and pitchers find their groove the second time through the order.
But in the second half of games (5th inning through the end of the game), it is much closer - VT 20, Opponents 15. In a statistical anomaly, VT has yet to score a run in the 5th inning, but they do have 14 runs scored in the 6th inning, their highest total in any inning.
One area of concern is runs allowed in the 6th and 7th innings. Hokies have allowed 6 runs in the 6th inning and 8 runs in the 8th inning (which isn't that bad, but relatively high considering they have only allowed 6 runs total in all other innings). It hasn't burned us yet (except for maybe the late HR by Alabama), but something to keep an eye on moving forward.
