?? I'm seeing 80-pound bags of 4000 psi bagged concrete for $4.68

at Lowe's here in Richmond. According to Sakrete's calculator, you'd need (84) 80-pound bags for a 10'x10' slab at 6" thick. With delivery from Lowe's, that should be less than $500 total. Maybe throw in four or five #4 rebars each direction and you're out another $70 or so. Not sure what your friend's labor cost is, but I would think the materials should be under $600.

I purchased a bunch of bagged concrete last May for a project at my house and I just checked my receipt - I actually paid $4.73/80-pound bag, and that was after a $0.25/bag discount for bulk purchases. So, it appears that concrete is actually somehow cheaper now than it was 9 months ago.
