I umpire A LOT of high level travel baseball- imagine this is the same for soccer, softball etc. On any given weekend I may see 3 kids with ANY hope of a scholly. The rest are filling out rosters. Paying upward of $2k per summer to be on the team, hotels/meals every weekend, then, to add insult to injury, paying $20/parent admission to tourney. To see a kid pitch 5 innings. I see kids who can’t catch, field, hit or pitch and shake my head. Any coach who says to not play HS or specialize in 1 sport should pound sand.
