VT Giving Day and TSL (long)

A little background, I was prompted to become an Ambassador for this event. Was told that if I could get 2 donors plus my own donation, I would be rewarded with a scarf, a decal and some (presumably wired) earbuds. Scarf looked nice, so what the heck. I figured some of my old tailgate crew would donate, so I sent out 5 text messages. 4 responded and donated through my personal Ambassador link. And 1 of the 4 also got her Mom to donate. Yay, swag procured! I also posted my link to my Facebook page and tweeted it as well.

While perusing TSL, I saw that Chip had posted his link. And I know that many of you donated using his link. I did too! And I’m not comparing myself to him. I was Ambassador for a day, Chip is a full time Ambassador for VT Softball. Every program at Tech could use a Chip! So I thought, what the heck, I’ll post my link on the Subscriber’s page, on the Wrestling page and in the Lounge. Maybe I could prompt a handful of other donations. I know that I don’t post much or often, and only a handful of you have I ever met in person. Maybe I’d prompt a couple of you to donate.

Well donate you did! As did the rest of the Hokie community! Unofficial #s showed over $8.2 million and over 15,000 donors! As for me, my link recorded 32 donors, on top of the ones mentioned above, mine, my spouse’s and my dog’s; 40 donors in total! I wound up (unofficially) as the 31st ranked Ambassador by # of donors! Of the 32 additional donors, I personally know 1 (and I’m assuming it’s my friend and not someone else with the same name, but who knows?). He’s a long time friend of mine, but has only a very, very loose affiliation with Tech. He played football at UR. So, if it was he, I’m putting that donation in the “from Facebook” pile. As far as I can tell, no one from Twitter responded. But I digress…

That means that 31 (or 32) of the donations that used my link were TSL members. And none of those that did do I know personally. I am floored! And while I do not have access to the amounts that anyone donated, I could deduce rough $amts/donor as my # of donors grew by 2, 3, or 4 and $ using my link went from $X total to $Y total.

Drumroll please….$8,485 rolled into various programs at Tech from my Ambassador link. And by rough estimate using my logic above, over 90% of that came from TSL!
W O W. W O W. W O W.

Thank you all!

Thank you Will for not nuking my posts (I didn’t ask permission, but ‘thought’ it would be ok to do so).

And the various programs that you selected while making your donations thank you as well!

Ut Prosim at its best!
