This is the technology point in time people have been waiting for
when there is a real technical wireless option for home internet. In theory, we've all been at the mercy of cable companies and their local concession agreements. Other than large markets with a fios option, most people have access to one and only one internet service. The cost of laying the fiber to add competition was always a barrier to entry, in addition to having the pay off the locals to get into a market.
This should result in a price war for internet, once the wireless companies get the support, home distribution and reliability settled out, like most things, including cable internet when it came out, it will take a bit and there will be some pain.
The biggest loser in this will be some smaller fiber based companies that tried the fios route to offer competition to cable companies in the last few years. When I left Iowa in 19, a company had just laid the fiber in our town to compete with the overpriced and crappy cable company that had controlled the market for 3 decades. Huge investment, going to be tough to pay off that debt most likely.
