Tho that was almost 30 years ago. That said, I would be shocked if the US commits ground troops to this. They'll impose economic sanctions and decry the invasion and all the proper stuff, but I don't see us committing a lot of US blood and treasure to fighting the Russkies. This isn't the USSR trying to take over the world with a competing ideology, it's just Russia being Russia, and their #1 priority for centuries (and for good reason) has been securing their borders against invaders. Add in the fact that at least a good chunk of Ukraine has historically been a part of Russia, and it's hard to see the US getting involved in a shooting war over this.
