as long as they are the top of the food chain in ESPN's college football model, ESPN will lobby to stack the rankings. They aren't even subtle about it.

I think Stech's notion about ESPN's finances is probably right; otherwise why they haven't worked with the ACC to buy Phillips' vote is beyond me.
