I would think the length of the NBA's and NHL's regular season


may be a bigger factor to explain why people aren't watching as many regular season games. When your team plays on different days, at different times, and on different channels then it can be tough to watch every regular season game. That's even before you factor in other competition. If a Caps game and a VT non-football athletic event are scheduled to broadcast at the same time, then do I watch the Caps or VT? For some people it may be a choice of watching their college team vs. their NHL team vs. their NBA team vs. their MLB team vs. their MLS team/European soccer team. There is only so much time in a day, so "free time" is often the first thing to go.
