My afterthoughts on the ALA series (not that I'm an expert!)
1. Love the way the ladies battled. We belong. Literally 2 'not so good' half innings over two games, against #2 in the nation. It literally is 'the way the ball bounces'
2. We have legit pitching at #1 and #2 and (maybe) #3. We have our ace and two definite serviceable, if not 'top', backups. And the backups are young!
3. I originally mentioned this the other day, and seems others have latched on, we really need to explore/develop slappers. It CAN be learned mid-season, IMHO, but you have to have a lefty that can execute. We can't outswing/outhit good pitching. This was a great wakeup call this weekend. Glad we got the opportunity, and hope the staff sees that and adjusts.
EDIT: Wife said I'm an idiot (she would know..she was a California player of the year back in the early 90's in softball for pitching). SHE says we just need more practice in hitting that crazy stuff elite pitchers are throwing. We will be fine for middle of the road, to good teams, but our best hitters need more exposure to the elite pitching. Called out hitting coach...she's not a Hokie so there goes that...
4. I just love this team. Regardless what happens. Love the energy, the light-heartedness with adversity, and just good, all around vibes.
GO HOKIES!!!! [Post edited by HokieNerd at 02/19/2022 6:20PM]
