I’d run through walls for Tony Bennett…

That’s sort of what his defense is predicated on as annoying as it is to watch.

I’ve enjoyed watching him since his college days at Wisc-Green Bay playing for his Pop.

Back in the ‘80’s, Mrs. Newt and I lived and taught in Greene County just north of Hooville. I had a 13” GE color TV in my bedroom that, with the circular UHF antenna properly adorned with aluminum foil and positioned perfectly, could pick up a snowy image from WNVT Channel 53 in Goldvein, VA. On Saturday nights, the station manager would step in front of the camera at 6pm or so an elicit donations to purchase broadcast rights to the evening’s games. For some reason, Wisconsin Green-Bay Phoenix and Wyoming Cowboys (WAC) we’re very popular with the viewers and often had their games purchased.

When the games started, I’d sit on the edge of the bed within range to adjust the antenna and watch the snowy cagers wave across the court. I was so impressed with Dick Bennett’s team lead by his point guard son, Tony. So damned smart.

Wyoming from 85-89 was lead by a most incredible player, Fennis Dembo. That kid was an under-sized 3/4 jack-of-all-trades. Through his passion and energy, he created a mania for Cowboy basketball. (Think Mutts) Their arena reminded me of Cassell, an opponent’s hell. Fans on top of the court going bananas. From my 13” foggy TV screen, I felt the power generated by Wisconsin GB and Wyoming.
