I understand how it can drive home a point to a football-centric fanbase...
But Im not a huge fan of comparing the two
If anything the Triple Option is closer to Bob Johnson's "System" at E&H (and other smaller schools who have run with it)
1) its an offensive system that is harder to prepare for and you have to change your entire gameplan on both sides of the ball to account for how different it is
2) you can completely disregard certain traditional positions and traits in positions when recruiting for the system (i.e. Triple Option doesnt need a QB who can sling it, the system doesnt need post players who can dp the dirty work in the post)
Syracuse's zone would be more like a zone-heavy defense in football. It is much easier to prep for a defense than an offense because defenses are reactionary by nature so you can dictate more than what you can dictate gimmick offenses.
All that said...I hate the comparisons. Syracuse's zone is just a zone that extends higher and further out, its as simple as that
