A few years ago, I developed a hypothesis that about half of all NFL


scoring drives of 50 yards or longer happen because of a downfield PI call, a personal foul negating a significant defensive play, or a ticky-tack defensive penalty on 3rd down that extends the drive.

I don't know if that means NFL defenses cheat a lot or if that means NFL offenses can't move the ball without help. Either way, the refs have a tendency to be involved in way too many touchdown drives.

On the winning drive, I remember actually thinking that the Rams moved the ball down the field all on their own and didn't need the refs help. Until....
