I would always carry extra golf balls with me, all the different types. When one of the old duffers would hit one in the rough they would send me to find it. If I liked the guy I would place a ball like his in a good location and shout "here it is, good lay". If the guy was a jerk a would place one in the worst possible place, poison ivy if there was any nearby, and shout "here it is, bad lay". My Dad caught on to what I was doing & that ended my career as a caddy. No regrets to this day.
