I was stationed at Murphy Dome AFS in Fairbanks in 1979.


Had a buddy that saw one on the side of the road when we were processing in at Elmendorf. He got out of the car to take a photo standing beside it. The moose was eatin' some grass, turned and looked at him, then flicked his head (and rack) and flung him about 15 feet away. I shot one while we were hunting grizzly bear outside of Fairbanks. 1400 lbs dressed. He was a big dude. Took two shots from a 44 magnum revolver.
