I'm just not a fan of taking the car in for basic services


I've known two people who've driven away from the garage without the oil drain plug installed. Completely grenaded the engine. Yes, the shop ended up paying for it, but that was only after fighting about it for a month, then another month of the car being back in the shop to have the engine replaced.

Plus, ever time I've taken a car to the shop, they've overtorqued everything. I doubt you'll find a torque wrench at any garage (unless they do full engine rebuilds...torque gets pretty critical when working on things like cylinder heads). I'm genuinely surprised I haven't had a drain pan or engine block cracked yet.
