Those critical with Aluma's play tonight miss the fact he held John Hugley

to just 2 points on 1-4 shooting, and a grand total of 4 rebounds!

Yes, the same John Hugley once averaging 15.3 points and 8.5 rebounds, by far Pitt's biggest threat in both categories.

He had help on the double teams with Cattoor and Mutts, but I'm wondering if both players taking each other out of the game had more to do with the low offensive numbers and rebounds for both. It was clear throughout the game they were both battling and struggling to get the ball and shots they are used to taking and getting.

I'm sure Pitt fans are scratching their heads too on how their best player was so limited in tonight's game, and an added loss for them.

Now the big question, will the same happen Monday night or what adjustments will be made?

Also, does Aluma's play against teams very active in the paint (see FSU's last weekend result where he was very much neutralized) affect his offense to that degree he will likely struggle again on Monday?

I'm curious if both Hugley and Gueye are just bad matchups overall for him offensively. Aluma took only 4 shots tonight, and 2 were 3 point shots, not something he is typically having to do in trying to get a shot up.

Lots pointed out during the game that VT needs Aluma in the paint, but time and time again the team wasn't able to get him the ball there (lots of turnovers moving the ball inside), or he would be double teamed by the time he got it, and just had to kick it back out.

How can things change for him Monday night?

Would that even be a bad thing, or does VT feel they have a better supporting cast if both teams inside presence doesn't have their best offensive output given the effort involved in keeping each other's primary go-to option in check?
