I lived in Tampa for 12 years - it happens
usually there's one or two weeks every winter when it gets that cold and people lose their minds. One year it got below freezing (a few degrees) every night for like 10 days. You would have thought the world was ending. It was right in the middle of strawberry growing season so the farmers were pumping water the entire time to cover the plants in ice (insulates them from freezing strangely enough). It drew down the aquifer enough that sinkholes started cropping up all over the place, swallowing cars and houses and even one unfortunate dude
