I like, but not sure I want to see it in NCAA or NBA, the ending that
"The Basketball Tournament" and the NBA All Star game since 2020, uses (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Basketball_Tournament), the Elam Ending.
There are variations on it but the gist of it is at the first whistle under 4 minutes remaining in the game, you take the team with the lead's score and add a set number of points (8 in the case of TBT) to get a "Target Score". First team to get there wins. It completely eliminates the value in fouling to create possessions.
One additional change they made in the 2020 TBT was that in that time period, a foul when in the bonus gave you 1 shot and possession. This eliminated the value in fouling to prevent a 3.
It's a hard call for me, do we eliminate 100 terrible boring endings at the cost of 1 exciting buzzer-beating ending? Does the Elam Ending create a different kind of exciting ending to make up for it.
