Amtrak can already do this (link).


Private or company-owned cars were staples on most passenger lines during the heyday of railroading in America. Amtrak still offers this service. It's just that it's rare somebody wants to try it. The university could simply provide VT rail cars under the technical specs determined by Amtrak in the link, and there you go.
