A little over 3 weeks for Women's lacrosse opener...
at #18 Jacksonville. As usual, the ACC will be the top women's lacrosse conference with 7 of its 9 teams being ranked in the Top 25.
Here's the preseason USA Lacrosse poll:
1. Boston College, 2. UNC, 3. Syracuse, 7. Notre Dame, 8. Duke, 11. UVA, 22. Louisville.
Tech will also play #12 JMU and #18 Jacksonville, both on the road.
I feel that 2022 will be a tough year for Tech women's lacrosse since the ACC is loaded with talent. I expect Tech or Pitt to be ranked last in the ACC preseason poll. Pitt actually has more talent than Tech. That will likely be the game that decides who finishes last in the conference. That game is at Pittsburgh. Pitt has two former Tech starters in graduate transfers Paige Petty and Reilly Reed. Pitt also has Syracuse starter Allyson Trice and Elon goalie Paulina Difatta. On paper, they have more talent than Tech. It will be interesting to see how well Pitt plays in their program's first season. Paige Petty, arguably Tech's best women's lacrosse player of all-time, is a preseason third team All-American.
Kayla Frank returns after taking off a year and most of the underclass starters return. John Sung left Tech with a good incoming recruiting class. With a new coaching staff, I just want to see improvement as the season advances. I'm not expecting more than 1 or 2 conference wins which is pretty optimistic. A 6 or 7 win season looks realistic. Despite the record, I see Tech as a #30-35 ranked team. The team appears to be happier and more relaxed this season. I'm still looking forward to watching Skiera's first Tech team.
