- First and foremost it was a road win in ACC!! It was obvious that rebounding and especially offensive rebounding were a point of emphasis with MY and the stats reflected that. Hats off to Aluma with a “ quite “ double-double.
- Hokies are getting closer to playing the way we all thought they might before season started with a lights out first half to go with an excellent 2 nd half vs. ND. If they can but 2 halves like that together in one game they will be hard to beat.
- The game was in some ways a mirror opposite of ND game as we could not miss in first half and State couldn’t throw ball in the ocean out of a boat. This made me nervous as I believe we would not shot that well for entire game and neither would State shoot that poorly. Did we play fantastic D in first half and terrible D in second half ? Not really we jumped on them early and they were shell shocked but began to rally before end of first half. It hold my wife the game would be close before it was over and she looked at me ( the way she often does ) like I was crazy.I’m sure MY told team that very thing that State would not lay down and to be prepared for a run and to keep their composure.
- Posters we’re losing their collective minds here because Allyne and Murphy continue to shot and miss shots. But weren’t we glad that he forgot those two open 3s he missed and knocked down his second huge clutch 3 in last two games ! That’s what shooters do they keep shooting and they have to believe every shot is going in .
- Team did ultimately manage to weather the storm and thus gained experience and confidence on how to win a close game that should not have been close. The ball handling under full court pressure and the officiating down the stretch were shall we say less than desirable .
- But we got the W now let’s get another one at BC and watch the front of the pack slowly but surely come back to us GO HOKIES !
