It is my belief that we are responsible for our choices/decisions and the outcome of those same choices. It took me losing everything I had to reach that moment of clarity that it was all my own doing. I too believe that calling addiction a disease (and an "uncurbable" disease at that) allows those that have not done the correct work on themselves an "out" if they mess up again.

I know, today, if I used, its because I choose too. You cannot convince me I have a disease, I chose to use the first time and it got out of control. I also understand, opiates, which were my DOC, effect the brain in a way the body becomes dependent on the drug. But as I made the choice to start, I too made the choice to stop.

It is through the work I have done on myself, that I believe, for me at least, it is a choice and not a disease. This is not to say I will not mess up later in life, but I know understand what consequences come with those choices.
