I spent yesterday afternoon in my office and left the dogs to snooze downstairs. When I came back down I found a ornament just like one of these two with its head chomped off on the floor. And somebody had thrown up a lot of bile on the sofa, which is covered by a heavy blanket and a sheet.

A foot from the ornament carcass was the top hanger park and the wire hook, all intact. Bits and pieces of the chomped part of the ornament were also nearby and on the sofa as well.

Bodie has never chewed a thing in the time we've had him but Jessie, we thought, had pretty much stopped chewing up stuff. Over the two Christmases she's been here, we've had our Christmas tree surrounded by a plastic gate, so apparently she grabbed one off the tree from sitting on the sofa and reaching over the gate.

I checked her mouth to see if there were any loose pieces still there, but I determined she'd spit out just about everything. So far, maybe 20 hours later, she still seems normal. So we got lucky.
