When I took Scouts to Philmont in NM one of the base camps had a pond in


front of a cabin and they had rigged up a major catapult type device which they used to chuck these huge chipmunks ( they called mini-bears). Pull it back, bait with some nuts, a minute or so later WHUMPH… poor critter flew easily 25-30 yds into middle of the pond. They could literally sit all evening and do that.
No animals were harmed in the telling of this story.
