Welcome aboard! I’d say your hunch is correct

Team scoring is essentially a binary win or loss proposition but the action and flow of the matches can be far more complex than a final result shows.

Generally, you can start to create “tiers” to judge wrestler quality within each weight class. For some weights, you might have 1 or 2 guys on a level all by themselves. In others, you may have as many as 10 realistic national title contenders. As a result, the meaning of a win or loss, even against ranked opponents, can vary wildly. Of course, at some point close losses don’t mean much if further improvement or potential never materializes.

My takeaways from the Arizona State match:
- 133 and 141 losses were slightly disappointing but don’t change season expectations for either weight class
- 157 sudden victory loss continues narrative of progress for Brady. could be realistic threat to AA.
- 165 much better score than expected for Ulrey against opponent who might be considered an outside threat for national title. good sign of progress but doesn’t change expectations for this season.
- 174 and 184 were as dominant as expected
