Just another example as to why you shouldn't get too worked up over
recruiting. Who would have predicted that Jacksonville State would sign the #1 recruit? Did FSU do anything "wrong" to lose him? Probably not. At the end of the day these are 17/18 year old young men and any number of variables can impact their decision. Best way to approach is to not consider any recruit committed until he signs and don't get bent out of shape when one decides to go elsewhere. I'm not going to say it's random because obviously coaches and staff put a lot of time and effort into recruiting and that certainly plays a role in guys' decisions. But it is sort of random in that you have no idea which variable will weigh the heaviest for any potential recruit. Maybe it's early playing time. Maybe it's scheme. Maybe it's location. Maybe it's that his girlfriend goes there. Maybe it's that he connected with the coaches. Maybe he really loved the campus. Maybe it's because it has a Chick-Fil-A nearby (I feel like that happened once). Maybe it's the degree/major program. You never know what is going to matter the most to any one player.
