If there had been an 8-team playoff in place this year

And the SEC had their way, they would have gotten three teams in, and the Big-10 would have gotten two. Ohio State and Ole Miss would be seeds #6 and 8. But if there were auto bids for the Power-5 and highest rated group of 5, Utah and Pitt would have been 7 and 8. Perhaps a good compromise would be to have the top-5 conference champions qualify, regardless of whether they are Power-5 or Group-of-5, and the other 3 spots as at-large. That keeps a team like Cincy from getting left out, and also keep an unworthy Power-5 champ out.
