and I love it. Retired from DoD after 30+ years. The day I could quit coming to work and still get paid . . . that's what I did. I really liked my DoD job, worked in the same organization for all but my first 2 years (hated those first years, daily exercise in bureaucracy). The Organziation changed names and reorganized a few times, but core functions (operations research and analysis) did not and we supported all of Defense Logistics Agency across the globe. Got some decent travel and saw / did some great things. Got to ride in MLRS (multiple launch rocket system) vehicle, see the warehouse and maintenance operation for Air Force 1. Great career, but ready to go the first day I was eligible for my pension to start. In one of the OPM classes I had preparing for retirement, the instructor said "Retire early and often . . . by that I mean whenever someone is willing to pay you to NOT work . . . take it, move on and find another opportunity to collect a retirement income." So, that's what I'm doing. Working everyday, but also pursuing opportunities to create passive income. How long until I cash in? When I'm not having fun or when my health gives out. So far, no end in sight. That said, we do have a second home on the River/Bay a nice boat or two . . or 3 . . . or 4 if you count kayaks. Empty nesters with nice options for fun every weekend, and more than enough disposable income to do what we want to do. So am I retired or working? It's a gray area for me. Why should I not work when I enjoy that too?
