Can someone give me the Cliff's Notes of the whole cheetah thing?


I'm glad to see the new staff out recruiting with such enthusiasm, but I don't get what about Derek Jones makes him a cheetah. Or am I wrong and the 'croots are cheetahs? Did he just like that blazer he bought so much that he decided to turn that into his whole personality?
