Pitt has not been able to retain good players

Capel talks the talk and has brought in some good talent. And he obviously knows how a good program should be run. But the roster is a revolving door. Some transfer. Some get in trouble with the law. Everyone here in Pittsburgh was high on Capel his first few years and the media still likes him, but no one understands why Pitt can’t get over the hump.

I have always thought it is harder for Pitt to recruit to the ACC than the old Big East. Western PA is not really a hotbed of hoops talent. The great teams Pitt had in the Big East were built on talent from the New York to DC corridor. Thing is, Pitt has a great arena and great support from students on campus. When they win, they draw good crowds.

No one expected much out of this Pitt team but things have gone even worse than expected. I really don’t expect Capel to make it another year.
