I'd say you still aren't doing it right unless you fix it up anyway and keep driving it (assuming you still need a vehicle and it isn't just a spare).

Even if a car is dead, get Miracle Max on the line and see if it can be brought back.

No way you could get a vehicle right now that's trustworthy for less than the cost of a head gasket repair.
