A huge Lewis Grizzard fan, he wanted to use


shetland (as in the book, Shoot Low, Boys. They're Riding Shetlands!) but shetland just didn't fit right.

So, pinto as counter to bronco. My friend had zero expectations on the Mendenhall hiring. Besides, I always laughed that "pinto" anagrams out to "pinot" so surely it fit!
