I don't think that was a very important bowl game either


Bowls that either have instant recognition as being a top-tier bowl (Orange, Sugar, Rose, etc.), or bowls where you're finishing on a strong note on a good season with a lot of returning starters the following year (i.e. a launchpad for the next season, think like VT's win over Tennessee in the Peach Bowl in 2009), or both (e.g. Clemson's Orange Bowl wins prior to their titles runs). But mid-tier bowls and lower, the outcome honestly doesn't mean much beyond the players on the field. VT's wins over Rutgers, Cincinnati, Tulsa, doesn't really move the needle a whole lot.
