It's not about approval of people. It is continuity
Look at Ohio State
Ohio State has moved from Tressel to Meyer to Day (ignoring the one year of Fickell). They have maintained traditions and recruiting and the overall atmosphere of the program.
VT doesn't need to ignore the past. We need to embrace it. Our past is an asset. NFL players and any past players can help us recruit in the areas they live and the connections they have. Our traditions are something to sell to recruits and sponsors/tv networks. Our past success is a foundation to prove that we can be at the top.
You don't let the past limit you as a coach, but you use it as a tool and as a selling point. If done right, it is an asset and should never be a burden. Past HOF coaches, HOF players, game day and program traditions, DBU, etc. It is all VT and is part of what makes us a great destination.
