the offensive stagnation that was characteristic of the Stinespring and Loeffler years, and recently the last 2 years of Corny's offense, which have been been nothing short of putrid. Frankly I wanted someone with a sound offensive mind, but I'm ok with a defensive minded coach if he does the following things:

1. Hits it out of the park with a good Offensive Coordinator hire. This cannot be a personal friend, as we've seen 2 HC's in a row hang onto an OC who was their close personal friend, especially Fu who wouldn't fire Corny even if it cost him his job. There are some rumors that Stiney might be coming back, as Stiney was Pry's coach at one point. If this is true, let him be on the auxiliary staff, possibly in the recruiting office, as if he even takes a positional job like TE coach, there will be scenarios where he may eventually be promoted back to OC, which will be a disaster for VT.

2. Get rid of Hilgart. I think no one can argue that our S&C program has not been subpar for the past few years. This has been especially noticeable once all of the Gentry trained players have graduated, and IMO has been more responsible for the gradual decline of this program than any other single reason. Our players don't develop, don't get bigger or stronger, and are manhandled in virtually every game we played this year. I once compiled a list of Hilgart's programs he's trained in the West , and virtually always, the teams he trained did worse than the teams before him or after him. I'm also tired of the multiple player altercations he has been involved with that have resulted in multiple players leaving. Was Gentry ever responsible for players leaving?? He is not suitable to be the head guy in ANY program.
