Nothing to do with conference, all about recruiting

Kelly has taken ND to the playoffs 3 times, got blown off the field 3 times.

He sees there is a huge gap between the 10th ranked class he can recruit at ND, and the top 5 classes recruited at Bama, OSU, Uga, etc.

Going to LSU allows him to build a team with top 5 classes, that he couldn't at ND, and have the talent levels needed to win in the playoffs.
