It's probably safer than taking a snap under center...


In the shotgun, you have a little time to recover if you mishandle the snap. And you had 3 guys back there. Even if a bad or mishandled snap occurred, you're highly likely to recover before a defender gets back there. Under center, a mishandled snap could get kicked around making a defensive recovery more likely. All that, plus we have far less practice under center.
