I think most SEC schools have gotten so ridiculous with salaries

expectations, etc. that unless you are Saban or Kirby Smart (for now), you won't get more than 4-5 years to win a National Championship. If not, you're out. Almost impossible to build any momentum. Or, you try to cheat to win like the Ole Miss' and Tennessee's of the world, eventually get caught and have to deal with that for 4 years.
