Xavier debrief...
Again, VT put themselves in a position to beat a good opponent, but Xavier found a way to win it in the end. Xavier shot 45% from 3 in a 62 possession game, and that is too much to overcome.
Another instance of VT getting great looks and the shot not falling. The last possession a great microcosm of the last few days as a whole. Got a great look, didnt go in, got another chance for a tip in and it didnt go in.
If either shot goes in and VT hits 3 more 3s on Wednesday, are they really a different team than they are right now at 5-2?
The answer is no, of course not. Ive not seen anything to show any warrant for panic. Actually, there are great signs moving forward. Sean Pedulla's emergence in clutch situations in his first month as a collegiate athlete is huge. He will only continue to get better and more productive as he gains confidence and playing time.
Hokies need to continue to move the ball. They passed the 13+ barrier for assists late in the game, but just barely. Theuve only averaged 12 assists per game during this tournament however, a sharp contrast to their previous 5.
The shots the Hokies gave up last night were the low percentage shots, Xavier just hit them...almost hit HALF of them. And they still only won by one.
If youre in the dumps about this team right now in November, its going to be a long season for you. Ive seen growth and Ive seen potential.
