Anyone familiar with GC’s football field of the mid 60’s would understand

the cloud of dust reference. There was not a blade of grass anywhere. On Thursday and Friday of a home game week the boys phys ed classes would walk the field picking up the small rocks that had worked their way to the surface. By far the worst football field in all of Southwest Virginia. By the beginning of the 70s GC had built a new stadium that was the best in the old Lonesome Pine District.
