Looking lost.....
as far as scheme, positioning, etc. is in the coordinator's main duties, be it coaching up his coaches and/or the players so that, as Mike Young likes to say, they play connected. Tackling is a fundamental, in my opinion, and goes more toward position coach impact. How many collegiate teams, you can even throw high school and pro in the mix as well, have you seen that you would consider good tackling teams? In my opinion, it is a fundamental that is failing at all levels due to a variety of reasons including, the fundamental not being properly taught in early years, reduced time and nature of practice to work on the technique and the TV effect. To explain the last point, the big hit is akin to the slam dunk in basketball. Kids sacrifice the basics of a solid offensive move or fundamental tackle for the TV highlight reel of the slam dunk or big hit. The only way it gets corrected is more fundamental teaching, practice time and an actual post practice price to pay for a missed tackle, penalty or missed fundamental play. You really want to make it stick, you impose the one fails, all fail rule and institute a higher level of accountability to position groups and or the team. Pretty eye-catching punishment when your teammates suffer the consequences for your fundamental failure.
