Football coaches and baseball pitchers are sort of the same

You almost always actually paying far more than the yearly salary because they rarely complete the whole contract. If a team signs a pitcher to a 7 yr contract for $10/yr, baseball GMs know in all likelihood they will really be paying more like $15M per year for 3 or 4 years.

I would have to think most college ADs have figured that out too. Most fans have not.
